SeaCalmPro

FAQs

When should I use SeaCalm PRO?
For optimal results, it is recommended to use SeaCalm PRO as soon as the first symptoms of seasickness appear. Prompt use allows our technology to accelerate the relief process effectively. It is essential to recognize and address any signs of motion sickness without delay. If you are prone to seasickness, it is advisable to keep SeaCalm PRO VR glasses readily available and become familiar with their use. Apply the headset without delay.
How to use and implement SeaCalm PRO (Charter fleets and passenger vessels)
1. How should crew members familiarize themselves with SeaCalm PRO before departure?
We strongly recommend that crew members take time to fully familiarize themselves with SeaCalm PRO before any voyage. Preparation should include:
  • Usage: Crew members should practice using SeaCalm PRO in a controlled environment to understand how it works and how it feels.
  • Fit: Ensure the crew knows how to adjust the VR headset to provide a comfortable and secure fit for different users.
  • Charging: Verify that all SeaCalm PRO devices are fully charged before departure. Crew should understand the charging process to ensure equipment is always ready for use.
  • Volume control: Learn how to adjust audio levels so passengers can hear comfortably. This ensures a suitable experience for users with different hearing preferences.
  • Re-centering: Crew should practice how to re-center the VR image, ensuring every guest has a correct and comfortable visual experience.
  • IPD adjustment (interpupillary distance): Understand how to adjust IPD for each user to ensure maximum clarity and comfort.
  • Power on/off and standby mode: Crew must master these functions to conserve battery and ensure the device is always ready when needed.
2. Should SeaCalm PRO be included in the passenger welcome or safety briefing?

Yes. It is essential that SeaCalm PRO VR glasses are introduced during the passenger welcome or safety briefing. Explain what SeaCalm PRO is and how it can help relieve seasickness.

Encouraging passengers to familiarize themselves with the device early on is highly beneficial. It ensures they know how to use it when needed and provides reassurance that an effective solution is available if they begin to feel unwell.
3. Where should SeaCalm PRO VR glasses be placed for passengers?
We recommend placing SeaCalm PRO VR headsets in each cabin. Passengers often retreat to their cabins when they start feeling seasick, so having immediate access allows them to use the device quickly and easily. This proactive placement can significantly improve comfort and onboard experience.
4. How should crew demonstrate SeaCalm PRO to passengers?
Whenever the opportunity arises, such as during calm periods or in response to guest inquiries, the crew should check and demonstrate SeaCalm PRO to the guests.

The demonstration should include:

  • How to properly wear the VR headset
  • How to adjust the volume
  • How to re-center the image
It is also important to explain how long SeaCalm PRO should be used for optimal relief, especially if it was not applied at the first symptoms. In such cases, longer use may be required to achieve full relief.
5. How does SeaCalm PRO improve the passenger experience onboard?
Simply knowing that SeaCalm PRO is available onboard can significantly improve the overall passenger experience. This awareness reduces anxiety when sea conditions change, as passengers feel reassured that they have access to an effective, fast-acting, non-invasive solution.
Unlike traditional remedies, SeaCalm PRO has no side effects and does not require medication, making it an attractive option for those who prefer non-pharmacological solutions.

Summary

Integrating SeaCalm PRO onboard enables a more comfortable and safer passenger experience. A well-trained crew familiar with the system, combined with clear communication from embarkation, significantly enhances customer satisfaction and reduces the impact of seasickness during the voyage. Proper preparation and clear communication not only help manage seasickness effectively but also contribute to a more relaxed and enjoyable journey for all.

What are the symptoms of seasickness?
Seasickness, like other forms of motion sickness, can be understood as a series of biological stages.
Early symptoms
The first stage involves early signs, which may include:
  • General feeling of discomfort
  • Restlessness or unease
  • Unpleasant stomach sensation
  • Loss of appetite
  • Increased salivation
  • Nausea and general malaise
  • Progression of symptoms
As seasickness progresses, symptoms may intensify:
  • Increased nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Strong urge to vomit
  • Feeling excessively warm
  • Sweating
  • Fatigue
How many people suffer from seasickness?
Not everyone experiences seasickness, and its intensity varies widely. Some individuals are more susceptible due to factors such as:
  • Genetics
  • Previous experiences
  • Higher sensitivity to motion
Estimates suggesting that around 25% of people suffer from seasickness are common. However, these figures are approximate and may vary depending on the study, population, and definition used.
What happens when I remove SeaCalm PRO? Does seasickness return?
Based on accumulated experience from hundreds of recorded uses among our main clients:
  • Approximately 50% of users require only one session for relief
  • Around 40% experience immediate relief, but may require another session if sea conditions worsen
  • About 10% do not achieve the expected results, generally due to factors such as heavy medication use, high anxiety levels, or certain vestibular conditions
How does virtual reality work?
Visual immersion
When you put on VR glasses and activate them, a high-resolution display is presented to each eye, creating a stereoscopic 3D effect.
This provides:
  • A sense of depth
  • Immersion in a virtual environment
  • A wider field of view than conventional screens
Our VR headsets include head-tracking technology. As the user moves their head, the virtual environment responds accordingly, creating a realistic sense of presence. This tracking is achieved through integrated sensors, gyroscopes, and accelerometers, updating the scene up to 80 times per second.
Are seasickness, motion sickness, and VR sickness the same?
Seasickness, motion sickness, and VR sickness are related conditions that share similar causes and symptoms. However, they occur in different contexts and have specific characteristics.
What types of vessels is SeaCalm PRO compatible with?
Performance by vessel type and size
Superyachts, pilot boats, offshore wind vessels, tugboats, expedition vessels, tourist vessels, and defense vessels (all sizes): Excellent performance in all conditions, including offshore navigation and rough seas.
Tourist catamarans:
Excellent performance, especially in challenging conditions due to greater stability.
Heavy displacement monohulls (small private vessels):
Very high user satisfaction and strong results in preventing and relieving seasickness.
Monohulls around 50 feet:
Excellent performance, especially in adverse conditions.
Large vessels over 50 feet:
Outstanding results even in open sea and rough conditions.
Light monohulls under 50 feet (coastal and offshore):
More challenging environments for any seasickness solution, including SeaCalm PRO. Results may be less predictable.
How does SeaCalm PRO work?
SeaCalm PRO addresses the root cause of seasickness: the conflict between visual input and the body’s actual motion.
Through an immersive 360° VR experience, the user is transported into a calm, stable, and relaxing maritime environment that helps restore a sense of balance. As the brain stops focusing on conflicting motion signals and adapts to the virtual environment, symptoms gradually decrease, providing relief within minutes
Can I use SeaCalm PRO after vomiting?

Yes. SeaCalm PRO can be used even after vomiting.

Although vomiting may provide temporary relief, symptoms often return shortly afterward. To address the underlying biological effects caused by sensory mismatch, it is recommended to use SeaCalm PRO as soon as possible. The technology helps reverse these effects, promoting a rapid reduction in symptoms and a renewed sense of well-being.

Can I combine SeaCalm PRO with motion sickness medication?
Yes. SeaCalm PRO can be used alongside motion sickness medication. It is important to highlight that SeaCalm PRO offers the advantage of being a non-pharmacological solution that simulates the sensation of having left the vessel.

Our trials have included many individuals who had already taken medication before or during the journey. In these cases, the effectiveness of SeaCalm PRO was not affected.

How long does the SeaCalm PRO VR battery last?
SeaCalm PRO VR glasses typically offer around 2 hours of active use. They also include a standby mode that keeps the device ready for up to 48 hours. The integrated lithium battery is located at the back of the head strap, ensuring balanced weight distribution and user comfort.
Can I use a standard phone charger?
Yes. As long as it has a USB-C connection and delivers at least 2.1 amps, it will charge correctly. Lower-powered chargers may charge slowly or not at all.
Can I use the VR headset while charging?
We recommend fully charging the headset before use. Although it can technically be used while charging, it is not recommended from a comfort and safety perspective during motion-related experiences.
How can I check the battery level?

Check the LED indicator next to the charging port:

  • Red = Low battery / discharging
  • Amber = Charging
  • Green = Fully charged
You can also view the exact battery percentage inside the VR environment, displayed on a clipboard located at the base of the nearest tree in the SeaCalm PRO virtual scene.
